I wrapped up our recent Earth Month activities by participating in one of the most impactful WTTC Global Summits with 900 other leaders and change makers from the public and private sectors. This year’s Summit theme was: “Transforming our World” –looking to catalyze our global tourism community’s power and potential to transform economies and destinations, along with the challenges of ensuring a sustainable future across the world, with the forecasted growth in global travelers from 1.2 billion last year to 1.8 billion in several years time.

Warm greetings from Paris. I spent the last few days on the magnificent new S.S. Joie de Vivre. Our family is immensely proud of this Uniworld Super Ship, which is one of the crowning glories of our 100 years of hospitality. Our outstanding Uniworld team members and our family worked tirelessly to create and achieve the most luxurious and spectacular ship to sail along the Seine. The ship was declared a ‘triumph’ by a top media publication who joined us on this voyage, amongst many superlatives mentioned during her maiden voyage.

UN’s 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism
As I hinted at in my previous blog post, 2017 is set to be a big year for sustainable tourism. A new year brings a refreshed enthusiasm and vigour to our continuing push for positive change from the tourism sector. This is made all the more evident with the United Nations General Assembly declaring 2017 to be the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
